First Nations Australians maintain the world's oldest continuous living cultures. Their enduring contribution enriches our nation through deep cultural knowledge, stewardship of Country, strong identity, enduring family and community connections, and sustained leadership in advancing human rights.
First Nations people continue to experience the ongoing impacts of colonisation, dispossession, racism and discrimination. True justice requires change beyond First Nations communities. All Australians have a role in challenging racism, listening to First Nations voices, building respectful relationships, and supporting truth-telling.
Lasting change depends on empowering First Nations peoples to lead the decisions that affect their communities through genuine partnership, self-determination, and strong community-controlled organisations. It also depends upon a commitment from us all to work together to create a more just and inclusive Australia.
Our Commitment
We are committed to advancing First Nations justice, self-determination and caring for Country. We acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the Birrpai, Worimi and Wonnarua Nations and respect their continuing connection to land, sky, waters and culture.
We will listen to and amplify First Nations voices, support community-led and community-controlled organisations, advocate for structural reforms that reduce inequity and strengthen self-determination, and work in partnership to achieve lasting social, cultural, environmental and economic outcomes for our communities.
